I take been take a very annoying problem for the past few months: my estimator has "fits" where it freezes periodically every couple seconds. While it freezes, I can still movement my mouse around, only applications go non-responsive. This is what my CPU usage looks like:

The laptop is a Thinkpad E530, information technology has a Core i5, 4GB of RAM, pretty standard. I am running Windows 7 x64. I have tried reformatting just the problem persists. I haven't found whatever offending programs using the Procedure Monitor, etc. and my CPU doesn't appear to be overheating (it stays at about 70C).

Because its a laptop, I can't easily change parts out to come across if its hardware related. I used a hard disk diagnostic utility and it appeared to be OK, every bit did my retention using MemTest.

Is there something I'k missing? Is this computer just a lemon?

I'm 100% out of ideas, please permit me know if you can help.

-Turn off all power saving options and Speedstep in the BIOS.

-In Windows change your ability options to High Performance fashion.

-Run Prime95, see if you receive whatever errors.

-Run a memory diagnostic tool outside of Windows.

-Watch CPU-Z to run across if your CPU is downclocking when these freezes occur.

Thank you then much for your respond!

I already disabled SpeedStep in the BIOS...

I tried out Prime95 and information technology seemed to max all of my processors (and a swell bargain of RAM) without effect. It was 100% usage constantly, even when I tried using applications that were locking up.

Goose egg really happened in CPU-Z when a game was locking upward.

You have any thought what might be going on?

I tried out Prime95 and it seemed to max all of my processors (and a great deal of RAM) without consequence. It was 100% usage constantly, even when I tried using applications that were locking upwards.

Nothing really happened in CPU-Z when a game was locking up.

Y'all accept whatsoever thought what might exist going on?

Information technology appears to be software and then, nearly likely drivers.

You should reformat again and but install admittedly essential drivers one at a fourth dimension, endeavor to isolate the cause.

You could also download basic functioning drivers from your actual hardware manufacter instead of your brand. For instance, download the realtec hard disk sound codecs from realtec's site instead of lenovo.

You should reformat over again and only install absolutely essential drivers one at a time, try to isolate the cause.

Y'all could too download basic functioning drivers from your actual hardware manufacter instead of your brand. For example, download the realtec hd audio codecs from realtec's site instead of lenovo.

Hmmm... I guess it's worth a shot.

I'll try out the drivers thing and see if information technology helps.

Thanks for the tips!

The aforementioned trouble that caused to me also... Power.... THe main cause of your trouble is power... As insufficient power to the graphics causes irregular malfunctioning... All the things are running properly but you cannot see... When you are gaming also you might see that subsequently some time your game freezes and something is yet moving on(like player freezes merely heaven is moving or an object is missing) .. Loftier functioning power choice would definitely do the work... If not and so reformat and install all the drivers correctly and and then endeavour to perform tasks and try gaming too..!

Lamentable but still the problem is that only... Go to a service heart and become your laptop's battery replaced... Improper power supplied to components ever practice freezing thins...

I don't call back information technology'south the battery because the CPU is still unstable when I take the battery completely out and run on cable power.

Can somebody tell me if this is normal for a HDD? I take been reading one-time posts and some guy said his problem went away when he replaced the difficult bulldoze.

Yeah this is normal for a HDD.... Every HDD has its own min/max read/write speed.... simply SSD take a high read/write speed...

Don't remove the battery and run your PC on cable power... Put in your battery and connect the Ability Cable then try if your CPU is over again unstable or not.... Meet endeavour installing your Intel Hard disk Graphics driver over again...

And in what style your CPU is unstable? See your CPU is not crusade of this freezing... This freezing is caused past your Intel Hard disk drive Graphics... How many years you have used your ThinkPad E530 ? Sometimes after some usage or defective parts bombardment doesn't support your system... It gives bereft power to your laptops components.... Try the to a higher place things and so encounter how it works...

Y'all're right, I don't recollect my CPU is the problem, information technology's just that my erratic CPU usage is the most obvious symptom (aside from the bad functioning).

I'one thousand not certain what y'all mean about the bombardment... the batter and string have both been in for the most part when this is happening.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling my Intel Hard disk 3000 driver and it'south still happening. I've had the figurer for a little over a yr (only exterior of warranty >.<).

Tin anyone thing of anything else? I am not optimistic another reformat will fix it.

Disconnect your power string and battery, then try to power on the unit for 10 seconds. Run into if that helps. Sometimes you need to do a full wheel every in one case and a while or things start causing problems.

About battery I mean HARDWARE... or the affair which keeps some power to run your laptop....

The best thing I would practise is to replace the bombardment with a new one...
